Fatima Syria Restaurant
Description
The hummus arrives smooth, rich and built for mopping up with warm bread, while the pickled cucumbers bring the sharp little kick that keeps a mezze table awake. Fatima Syria Restaurant is one of the few places on Lanta where Syrian cooking gets proper room on the menu.
Falafel sandwiches are the quick lunch choice, packed into a baguette and easy to take away. Stay longer for the beef stew, lamb, chicken, Arab salad and biryani rice. The kitchen also turns out Pad Thai, because Koh Lanta refuses to keep its cuisines in separate rooms.
The setting is basic: plastic-chair casual, no polished dining-room theatre, and entirely focused on the plate. Foodies after hummus, falafel and slow-cooked meat will be happier here than anyone chasing beach-club lighting and a cocktail list with a minor novel attached.
Bring a group and spread the table with mezze, salad and grilled or stewed meat. The biryani rice is the sleeper pick, especially alongside the bright, salty pickles.
